Financial Aid Meeting - Nov 21, 2008

Dear Junior and Senior parents,
The Financial Aid Meeting for 2007-2008 will be held on Wednesday, December 19th in the high school cafeteria at 7:30 pm. This is an earlier date than in the past which can be used to your advantage in terms of organizing tax information so that you can fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) early. Completed FAFSA forms can not and will not be processed until January 1st so this early meeting will help students (and parents) complete the financial aid process in time to be eligible for the maximum amount of award dollars.
There are two ways to fill out the FAFSA form. They are the paper version and the electronic version which you can find on the internet at . The electronic version has two advantages. It will not let you submit the FAFSA unless all of the information you need to provide has been completed and it is received much faster than by traditional mail. A personal identification number (PIN) is required to fill out the FAFSA electronically and you can obtain your PIN at the website listed above. If you have time it would be a good idea to visit this website and get an idea of the information needed to complete the FAFSA.
There will be a representative from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction assisting me with the presentation. Her name is Laurie Rasmussen-Duran and she will cover all of the details for filling out the FAFSA form. This is helpful because her knowledge will help make the financial aid process seem less overwhelming. Also, if you have started the process of filling out the FAFSA, you will be able to get answers to your specific questions at this meeting.
I want to stress that it is especially important for seniors to attend this meeting with their parents. After all, it is their education and they need to know what goes into paying for it. Junior parents are encouraged to attend because this meeting will help you get a feel for this process as you prepare to file for financial aid next year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at the high school (776-4001).
